Your Baby's Development

Birth to five years of age is the most important time in a baby’s growth and development.  In early development babies will:

  • begin to bond with others
  • learn how to communicate
  • learn how to explore their world

Sometimes babies need extra support during their early years.  Aboriginal Infant Development consultants work in respectful ways to support families and their infants through early developmental stages.

Baby’s early developmental screening and assessments can help to make a difference in their lifelong learning and well-being.

Aboriginal Supported Child Development Program (ASCD)

  • Parenting - 9 ways to bring out the best in you and your child

The ASCD program is a provincially funded program that is designed to meet the needs of children with special needs, by recognizing the importance of inclusion during the early stages of development.

We provide culturally appropriate support services to children in child care centres or homes and community environments.

Referral to ASCD is often done by a parent, doctor, public health nurse, child care provider or other community professionals.  Children between the ages of new born to 12 years are eligible if they have a developmental delay or disability in one of the following areas...physical, cognitive, communicative or social/behavioral and they require support in a child care setting due to the delay or disability.

Besides providing support to a child in the child care setting of the families' choice, the ASCD program will also help families by assistance in finding child care that meets the child's needs, individual planning that ensures that each child has an Individual Support Plan which includes their goals, activities and strategies to support their continued growth and development, as well as support, consultation and training to meet the needs of families and child care staff.
